Speaker Biographies

 

Sergey Radaev, Ph.D., is a Program Director at Cancer Training Branch, Center for Cancer Training, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, USA. Dr. Radaev currently manages a diverse portfolio of NCI career development awards. His experience also includes serving as a Scientific Review Officer at NCI in charge of the NCI-I standing committee (2009-2016), which reviewed a broad range of individual career development awards and institutional training grants.


Michael Schmidt, Ph.D., is a Program Director at the NCI Center for Cancer Training, where he manages Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) and NCI Transition Career Development Award (K22) awards. Dr. Schmidt’s academic background includes a M.S. in biochemistry and genetics and a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology both from the University of Würzburg, Germany. He joined NIH as a postdoc (NHLBI) in 1997 where he studied the molecular biology of Adeno Associated Virus and established the NIDCR Gene Therapy and Therapeutics vector core in 2002. Dr. Schmidt joined the Center for Scientific Review in 2006 as Scientific Review Officer where he initiated the Therapeutic Approaches to Genetic Diseases Study Section. He joined the NCI Center for Cancer Training in 2012.


Corinne Boulanger-Espeut Ph.D., M.B.A., is a Health Science Administrator/Program Director in the Cancer Training Branch (CTB) in the NCI’s Center for Cancer Training.  Dr. Boulanger-Espeut is responsible for managing a grants portfolio of training and career development awards.  She has a strong affinity for training, mentoring and teaching, and is excited to work with the next generation of cancer researchers.  Before joining CTB, Dr. Boulanger-Espeut had a long career in intramural science at the NIH.  During her time in the laboratory, Dr. Boulanger-Espeut co-authored numerous papers, spoke at many national meetings, and trained many students and post-doctoral fellows.

Speaker Biographies

 

 Hana Odeh, Ph.D., is a Program Director for the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Center for Cancer Training, Cancer Training Branch (CTB). In this role, Dr. Odeh provides program management for the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships (F30, F31 and F32). She also serves as a co-program director for the NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Award (F99/K00). As a program director, Dr. Odeh provides scientific expertise, application guidance, manages new and existing awards, and supports CTB’s initiatives and outreach activities. Dr. Odeh received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.

Sonia Jakowlew, Ph.D., received her doctorate in molecular biology from Rutgers University, performed postdoctoral research at the Institute de Chimie Biologique in Strasbourg, France, and she later joined the intramural NCI as a Staff Fellow. Dr. Jakowlew became a Principal Investigator in the Biomarkers and Prevention Research Branch of NCI where her research focused on the role of TGF-B in carcinogenesis. She transitioned to extramural NIH as a Program Director in the Cancer Training Branch of the Center for Cancer Training of NCI where she currently administers the fellowship and career development awards of early investigator health scientists conducting cancer research.

 

Prachi Mishra, Ph.D., is a staff scientist in Surgical Oncology Program, National Cancer Institute (NCI), NIH-Bethesda, and a part time Program Officer detail trainee in Cancer Training Branch (CTB), NCI. Dr. Mishra is involved in clinical and preclinical research of endocrine cancers (adrenocortical and thyroid cancers) and made important contributions in breast and prostate cancer research. She specialized in cell biology, molecular biology, metabolomics, and translational oncology. Dr. Mishra completed her Ph.D. in cancer biology from India, and postdoctoral fellowship in Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis, NCI, Bethesda, and served the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, as a Staff Scientist (2018-2020).
