Are you currently a trainee at Rogel Cancer Center?
On March 6, 2026 the Rogel Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) hosted the 2026 Advancements in Cancer Research Symposium (ACRS) at Palmer commons. The goal of the ACRS is to bring together innovative research and interdisciplinary connections to drive progress across the cancer continuum.
The event featured three lightning talk sessions, with 13 speakers representing the five Cancer Center research programs. Our speakers included a diverse group of faculty members and trainees, with keynote remarks delivered by Jacqueline Jeruss, M.D., Ph.D.
"It’s such a long time that we have to commit to seeing the arc of our work make its way to patients. Showing up every day and working hard every day is a key component of what actually translates to success. We do the work because we are serving as scaffolds ourselves to train the next generation to continue the work."
Over 160 attendees participated, with submissions from 60 trainees. Five abstracts were selected for lightning talk presentations during the symposium, and prizes were awarded to the top three trainee presenters
Congratulations to Sydney Musser (Grembecka/Cierpicki Lab) for winning first place ($750); Grace McIntyre (DiFeo Lab) for second place ($500); and Sravya Palavalasa (Wahl Lab) for third place ($250).
The symposium concluded with an in-person poster session. See 2026 ACRS Agenda and Virtual Poster Sessions below.
